You don’t get more iconic in terms of tag team wrestling than The Rock n’ Roll Express. Robert Gibson & Ricky Morton are perhaps the most decorated tag team in the history of professional wrestling. Making their debut as tag team in 1980, both men remain active in the ring as a team 42 years later – and are in their retirement tour. This will likely end in 2023, as per Robert Gibson.
Robert Gibson Knows Rock n’ Roll Express Will Finish Up In NWA
While speaking with Insider’s Edge, WWE Hall of Famer and Rock N’ Roll Express member Ricky Morton would have a chance to speak on the current retirement plans for this team. They know they’ll finish in NWA – but when asked if they have an exact date in mind, Morton had the following to say.
“No, we haven’t. There are so many places we have on our farewell tour, I guess it’s going to turn into KISS’ farewell tour and go on for 14 years because there are so many places we haven’t been or we need to go back. There are a lot of towns that you want to go to. We’re talking about it. It has to be, our last match, it has to be at NWA. I have talked to Billy Corgan about it.
It will probably be June or July of next year. Robert and I have a few towns we still have to hit. We were going to end it this year, but we announced this and, we’re trying to make a living, we didn’t make millions, and there are towns that we’re going to make a lot of money off of in the next six months. It’s going to happen.”
It’s likely we will see Rock n’ Roll Express look to show up in as many matches and promotions as possible. WWE is a potential spot for a special appearance, as is AEW – who loves to honour legends when possible. What matches do you want to see from Rock n’ Roll Express before they call it quits?
