Nelson Mandela’s grandson Zwelivelile Mandela has slammed Meghan Markle’s suggestions that her marriage into the Royal Family was akin to Mandela being freed from prison.
Nelson Mandela’s Grandson SLAMS Meghan Markle’s Comments About Her Royal Wedding Being Compared To Mandela’s Freedom From Prison
The Duchess of Sussex made those comments in an in-depth interview with ‘The Cut’ where she recalled a cast member of The Lion King detailing how happy they were that she had married into the firm.
And as part of that process, Meghan threw a cat amongst the pigeons when she compared herself to one of the world’s most talked-about-historical figures.
After all, prior to marrying Prince Harry, her claim to fame was being an actress on ‘Suits.’ In her comments at the time, Meghan recalled the incident of what she was told. She said: “I need you to know.
“When you married into this family, we rejoiced in the streets the same we did when Mandela was released from prison.”

And now Zwelivelile has come out to give his opinion on the matter. He spoke very directly about how his grandfather had ultimately stayed in prison for 27 years.
And with so much history in the family, he admitted that he was shocked at the comparison that was being made.
With that being said, his comments suggested a dig at Markle who had not made any significant headway in the political arena.
In response to the comments, Zwelivelile stated: “Madiba’s celebration was based on overcoming 350 years of colonialism, with 60 years of a brutal apartheid regime in South Africa.
“So it cannot be equated to as the same.” The fans were equally condemnatory towards Meghan on social media. A significant proportion of people felt her comments were only designed to increase publicity for herself.
One person wrote: “Meghan is a fame hungry laughing stock. Nobody will ever take her seriously.”
It is fair to say that Meghan’s comments did backfire, and perhaps it is wise that she refrains from making comparisons with political figures until she has made some headway into politics.
