Chris Jericho claimed he would take down every prior Ring of Honor World Champion, but was still shocked when Dalton Castle interrupted him last week during AEW Rampage. Castle reigned as ROH World Champion from December 2017 to June 2018, and literally broke his back during that time. If he would do that to keep the belt, you have to wonder what he would do to take it back from someone like Jericho, who does everything in his quest to dishonour the brand. Tonight, we will find out how far Castle will go – as he goes one on one with Jericho with the belt hanging in the balance.
Wheeler Yuta Questions The Judgement Of Bryan Danielson
Before this match we heard from Renee Paqutte, she’s reunited with her former Talking Smack co-host in Bryan Danielson, who will join with Wheeler Yuta for an interview. Last week, we saw Daniel Garcia choose to side with Chris Jericho, costing Danielson the ROH World Championship – which remains heavy on the mind of Danielson.
Danielson has high hopes for Garcia, seeing him as someone who can surpass him. With the right guidance, he could be the best wrestler ever. However, Yuta would accuse Danielson of being daft, missing a snake in Garcia. Yuta wonders if the Blackpool Combat Club means anything to him. Yuta bled to join, and respects Claudio & Moxley with his life – but maybe he shouldn’t have gotten to know a hero in Danielson.
Dalton Castle Comes Out Fast Against Jericho
Jericho would offer the handshake, and Castle would ignore the Code of Honor and dig through his trunks to find a middle finger. Jericho would be dropped with a series of shoulder tackles and a big hip toss. Castle would be sent out to the floor by Jericho, but got back into the ring for a series of deep suplexes.
ROH Final Battle 2022 would be announced during a series of Gutwrench Suplexes, before Castle would pin far too close to the ropes. Hager would get involved, and had The Boys thrown at him while Jericho was down. Jericho would get beaten into the corner with some strikes, but was able to come back with a backdrop before a classic cocky pinfall.
Castle would be set up for a superplex, with Jericho being shoved off to the mat. A diving axe handle would be blocked by a dropkick to the gut, and Castle was cornered for some chops, but would come back twice as hard. Jericho would avoid the running knee smash – sending Castle tumbling to the floor.
Chris Jericho Goes After Jerry Lynn
Castle had the triangle dropkick scouted – before hitting a forearm and the jumping knee smash. Jericho would be hit with a low suicide dive, before the swinging hurricarana on the floor. Hager rushed in and would be avoided, with The Boys swarming him. Back in the ring, Jericho and Castle clashed with crossbodies.
The Purple Hat of Hager was taken, and he’d yelled he loves that hat and beat them down to get it back. In the ring, Castle would be caught in the Walls of Jericho, extra bad with that formerly broken back. Castle found the bottom rope, before hitting a left arm lariat for the two count. Lionsault would be blocked into a German Suplex for the two count. Jericho would have the Codebreaker blocked into the Bangarang, but Castle’s finishing move was not enough here tonight.
Judas Effect would land in an exchange of strikes, and Jericho would find the finish. That’s another champion defeated, and Jericho did this one without cheating. That was a match that represented ROH well, but he’d go after ROH Commentator Ian Riccaboni. Jerry Lynn would make the save – and is a former champion, and ended up tombstoned on the ROH World Championship. That’s another champion defeated.
