Last night was one of the biggest nights in All Elite Wrestling’s three year history. After being kept apart for the bulk of the company’s history, we would finally see ‘Hangman’ Adam Page face Jon Moxley with the AEW World Championship on the line. Intense promos would build up the match, with fans tuning in to see who would talk out with the gold – only for a tragic ending to follow.
Hangman Page Was Injured During The Match
During the match, Hangman Page would be struck with the ‘King Kong Lariat’ from Jon Moxley, causing him to land awkwardly on his face and shoulder. Full coverage of the match can be found here. Quickly, referee Paul Turner would check his condition, noting something was wrong. The ringside doctor Michael Sampson would be in the ring quickly, with the match called off moments later to the shock of fans.
Jon Moxley would be named the victor via referee stoppage, and would do his best to keep the show rolling – with nine minutes of live airtime left to be filled due to the premature conclusion to the fight. Paramedics would be seen helping Page out of the ring by fans in the arena, with camera crews careful to avoid this. While being carried out of the arena, Page would provide a thumbs up to the crowd – adding some hope to the situation.
Officially Diagnosed With A Concussion
Page would be taken to a local trauma centre to be assessed, with the company later confirming via Twitter that he had suffered a concussion. Due to the quick action of the medical team on site, further damage was avoided – and Page will be monitored under the company’s concussion protocol, and not allowed to return to the ring until he is fully cleared.
This is simply one of the risks performers take when they enter the ring for a match. By all accounts, this was a freak accident – with neither Moxley or Page to blame. The situation was handled to near perfection by AEW staff, noticing something was wrong and acting upon it before further damage could occur.
We here at TheOvertimer wish Adam Page a speedy recovery, and hope to see him back in the ring soon. What are some of your favorite matches from Page’s run in AEW? Let us know what you think in the comment section down below.
