On a recent episode of AEW Rampage, we would see the debuts of three stars that fans of Ring of Honor would quickly recognize. Former ROH World Tag Team Champions Matt Taven & Mike Bennett and their manager Maria Kanellis-Bennett would make their debut to assist The Embassy in beating down FTR, Wardlow & Samoa Joe. Known collectively as The Kingdom, they would recently finish up a stint in Impact Wrestling – ending up with interest from both WWE & AEW.
Matt Taven,. Mike Bennett & Maria Kanellis-Benett Sign With AEW
In a recent report from Fightful Select, we’d get confirmation that The Kingdom made their choice – and would sign with AEW. Their debut already made this rather clear, but there was little update following their debut appearance, with them not mentioned in the following week of AEW programming. Despite this, it seems like they’re sticking around in AEW – and it’s hard to deny there’s some big chances to shine there.
Starting off with Matt Taven, he’s likely to get a big time singles match with Chris Jericho – who has been on a quest to defeat former ROH World Champions. Taven won the belt in Madison Square Garden, and would have a lengthy reign as champion. Recently, he’s been more into tag team wrestling, and matches with the likes of FTR, The Acclaimed, and The Young Bucks would be on the way to show AEW just how good they can actually be.
Bringing Adam Cole Back To The Kingdom
Speaking of The Young Bucks, there’s also a big chance for them to shine in the trios division. While it’s been a while, Adam Cole was originally part of The Kingdom – prior to his time in BULLET CLUB or The Undisputed Era. With Bobby Fish gone from AEW, the months of set-up with the Undisputed Elite was almost for nothing – but The Kingdom vs. The Elite is on the table now.
While not as big a match on paper, there is a chance for it to still be an incredible match, and to tell a fantastic story. Needless to say, there is more than meets the eye when it comes to The Kingdom in AEW. What do you hope to see Taven, Bennett & Maria do in AEW?
