The AEW run of Jeff Hardy earlier this year is already feeling a bit like a distant memory. Hardy would join the company in March following his WWE release, and was seemingly set to have one last big run alongside his brother Matt Hardy. Jeff would also find himself in the Owen Hart Memorial Cup, where he met rising star Darby Allin in this opening round. These two would decide it was to be an “Anything Goes” match, ensuring chaos.
Darby Allin Thought Jeff Hardy Match Would Send Him To Hosptial
While speaking with new AEW hire Renee Paquette on “The Sessions” podcast, Allin would open up about this match with Hardy – and how he thought it would not end well. Allin would be quoted saying the following.
“Earlier in the day, I climbed that ladder and I looked down and I was like ‘yeah, I’m for sure going to the hospital tonight.’ There’s no way around it. “Everybody asks me ‘dude how’d that feel?’ And honestly, it didn’t feel like anything, it was so safe. You can see me if you watch the video back, I kinda go to Jeff’s ear ‘that sh*t was so fun!. AEW-wise, that was the craziest thing. I thought for sure I was going to meet my doom.”
”
Hardy would win the match, losing to Adam Cole in the semi-finals of the tournament. He would be pulled over and charged with a DUI soon after, and has been since sent to rehab and pulled from AEW programming. Hardy remains under contract with AEW, and is expected to return if he can prove sustained sobriety.
Allin is currently feuding with Jay Lethal, and will face Lethal on the next episode of AEW Dynamite. Their most recent segment saw Lethal slam a loading door down on Allin before applying the Figure Four Leg Lock – showing Allin has not slowed down with stunts. Are you a fan of Darby Allin?
