Coach: McGregor vs Masvidal Could Be “One of the Biggest PPVs of All Time”

Jorge Masvidal’s coach, Mike Brown, is looking forward to an “exciting” return to the UFC for “Gamebred”. Masvidal remains one of the promotion’s biggest stars despite his three-fight skid, and Brown cited another famous name with a poor recent record as a potentially huge fight. Speaking with MMAJunkie, Mike Brown stated that he sees a McGregor vs Masvidal fight as being “one of the biggest PPVs of all time”.

“I want it to be something exciting, something big, something people get excited about. There are a lot of guys that would make sense, but I don’t know. Gilbert, Conor, Edwards, whatever. There’s a lot of big ones out there, I think he’s one of the biggest stars in the sport. Put him with any of these guys and you got one of the biggest pay-per-views of all time.”

Jorge Masvidal has endured three losses in a row. He lost back-to-back title challenges against Kamaru Usman, and most recently lost a decision to Colby Covington. Not long after the Covington fight, Masvidal allegedly assaulted Covington outside a Miami steakhouse. With Masvidal currently awaiting his pre-trial hearing, Brown asserted that Masvidal is more dedicated than ever when it comes to his training.

“He’s in the lab developing techniques, developing skill all the time, that’s what he’s doing. He’s hard at work right now. I say it all the time, this guy’s got more weapons than anybody, and he’s always developing new tools, new tricks, and that’s exactly what he’s doing now.

He’s in the gym drilling more than anybody in there, putting in the work, putting in the time. I mean it’s crazy to think, but he’s developing a lot of new tricks and weapons. Something you wouldn’t expect from a guy 50 fights in, but that’s what makes him so great and that’s what he’s doing right now.”

Another potential opponent for Jorge Masvidal is the current welterweight champion, Leon Edwards. Edwards managed to do what Masvidal could not, knocking out Kamaru Usman in the final round to claim the 170-pound belt. Edwards and Masvidal have bad blood going back to an incident in London several years ago that saw Masvidal hit Edwards backstage with a “three piece and soda”.

McGregor, too, is currently riding a losing streak, after sustaining back-to-back losses to Dustin Poirier. The latter saw McGregor break his leg, an injury from which the Irishman is still recovering.

Is McGregor vs Masvidal guaranteed to be the massive pay-per-view Mike Brown says it will be? Let us know in the comments.
