The patriarch of Sister Wives, Kody Brown, explains the family food storage and viewers are wondering if he is a doomsday prepper. They want to know more about the food storage and the reason behind it.
Why The Sister Wives Family Keep Food In A Storage
In an October 16 episode, Kody and Christine were seen having a conversation about their divorce logistics. After discussing their daughter, Truely, Kody asked if Christine would like to take some portions of the family’s “food storage,” and she refused, saying that she will not live in “fear” anymore. Viewers can recall that earlier seasons showed the family basement in Lehi, Utah packed with food, toiletries, and, water.
The father of eighteen further explain that food storage is cultural. He pointed out that the reason behind storage is to make sure one has a food bank for the entire family for either the end of the world or the second coming of Christ. Kody and his four sister wives all explained that the storage was influenced by the Mormon church teachings since they were children. Janelle even recalled that it was also practiced by her grandmother and mother.
According to The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Days Saints, Mormons are expected to have food stored in case “adversity” should come. The teaching implores them to care for themselves, their neighbors and their bishops. The bishops who are considered very important lead the congregation and they are often the highest office holder of the Aaronic priesthood.
The church encourages families like Kody’s to not hoard more than three months of supply of food, water, and money for their family, the church, and bishops. This Sister Wives season has been a busy one for the polygamist. He is not okay with the idea of Christine leaving him. He shared that he is bitter and angry with her for and that he is still living in an illusion that Christine is still with him. Now, he can take solace in knowing that she isn’t interested in his family storage.
