Meghan Markle has been slammed by reporter Nana Akua following her comments that she had been grateful for getting to know the late Queen Elizabeth II.

The comments did generate some talking points, especially given the manner that Markle had behaved prior to the former monarch’s passing. She allegedly turned down the opportunity to visit Balmoral prior to her passing.
Not only that, but her controversial interview with Oprah Winfrey where she accused someone in the Royal Family of having reservations about Archie’s skin colour coincided with the deterioration of the late Prince Philip’s health.
And yet, Meghan took some time out to say some warm words for Queen Elizabeth II. In an interview with Variety at the time, she said: “Certainly, in terms of female leadership, she is the most shining example of what that looks like.
“I feel deep gratitude to have been able to spend time with her and get to know her.” While she may have been seen crying at the funeral, as well as paying her respects at Windsor, that has not been enough for Akua to forget Markle’s prior actions.
This is particularly since Meghan even admitted that she had been keeping a journal during her time in the firm, which hinted that the Oprah and ‘The Cut’ interviews could be the first of many to come.
In response to the comments, Akua stated: “So we should forget that you trashed the Royal Family on Oprah by putting it out there that someone in the Royal Family was a racist?
“And if my memory serves me correctly I believe the Queen’s extremely polite and measured response to that was that ‘recollections may vary.” The response on social media was much the same.
A significant proportion of the fan base bashed Meghan’s tone-deaf comments. One person wrote: “She got to know the queen as well as I did when I passed the Palace once on the number 7 bus.”
