Elon Musk buying Twitter is not a small step. The transaction for acquiring the company is $44 billion. So if Elon Musk is ready to spend this kind of money on something it must be something he is passionate about. But will this passion of his expel some celebrities from the platform?
Elon Musk bought Twitter with the purpose to minimize censorship and allow free speech. However, not everybody sees this like that.
Now When Elon Musk Owns Twitter, Celebrities Threaten To Leave It
A number of celebrities have announced since the beginning, that if Elon Musk is to buy Twitter, they will leave the platform. Now when exactly that happened, most of them do not agree with Elon Musk’s views. They are disgusted even at the thought of bringing back controversial personalities to Twitter. Personalities such as Donald Trump, Kanye West, Alex Jones, etc.
According to most of the celebrities that have Democratic political orientation, doing this would fill Twitter with false information instead of ‘freeing it’.
“I’m out of here.” – Ken Olin wrote when he found out the news. “The day @elonmusk takes ownership of Twitter, I’m out.” – the This Is Us executive producer declared. “No judgment. Let’s keep the faith and let’s protect our democracy. Let’s try to be kinder and let’s try to save the planet. Try to be more generous. Let’s look to find peace in the world.”
“Y’all’s, for real, come find me over on Instagram and the tok.” – Brian Koppelman wrote. “Gonna really try to take a breather from here for a minute or a month come deal close time. I can see the logic in taking a long Twitter hiatus when EM takes it over.” – the director of the Billions series said.
On the other side, other people do not agree with Elon Musk but are pro-staying on the platform. The filmmaker Rob Reiner has a quite different approach to all of this. According to him, the right thing to do is to stay on the platform, but express the revolt on the elections.
“For those fighting to preserve our Constitutional Democracy, now is not the time to leave Twitter. Now is the time to VOTE BLUE.” – Rob Reiner tweeted.
Elon Musk finally owns Twitter. His saga of buying it lasted for more than half a year and thankfully ended without any court trials. He plans to make Twitter more open, to make it with less censorship. While many people praised this plan, others criticized it saying this will turn Twitter into a hostile environment that promotes hate speech.
People are also hopeful that Elon Musk might actually turn Twitter into a better platform. The actress and activist Mia Farrow was one of those people who were doubtful that Musk can better Twitter. However, she has hope.
“You gave us Tesla and Space X. Thank you. I hope you can keep Twitter up to your previous accomplishments and right people around the world.” – Mia Farrow tweeted.
There is an obvious resemblance between this situation and the situation when Donald Trump was running for President. Many American democrats claimed that they will leave the country if Donald Trump wins – but they didn’t. The same will be here, some will leave, but the number will not be something that would achieve the desired effect.
