The legitimacy of the Royal Family has been called into question following the increasing cost of living.
Royal Family’s Legitimacy Called Into Question-‘The Monarchy Is A Sham,’ Says Fan
The presence of the monarchy has always been a topic that has been divisive on the basis of whether the benefits outweigh the drawbacks. Supporters of the firm would argue that they bring a significant amount of money into the country, as a result of tourism.
Meanwhile, others have questioned whether it is possible to have a hereditary monarchy when people are suffering from the economic consequences caused initially by the pandemic.
Therefore, a compromise has been suggested over whether British taxpayers should be allowed to opt-out in supporting the monarchy.
TV personality Stacey Solomon previously questioned the purpose of the monarchy with her following comments: “Some of our kids weren’t even getting school lunches.
“I just couldn’t get my head around that. It would be cool if there was an opt-in opt-out version and you can opt to give it to somebody else.”
Nevertheless, there would have to be a conclusive argument. First of all, the large number of people who came out for Queen Elizabeth II’s coffin would suggest that the monarchy is still beloved by a cross-section of people.
And yet, it is equally possible to argue that this was merely people jumping on the bandwagon. Secondly, it would completely transform the British political system, which is something that would have to be considered.
The fans on social media resonated with Stacey’s comments. A certain subset of people felt it was no longer tenable to have a monarchy when a large proportion of the country was struggling.
One person wrote: “The monarchy is a sham. It does not ensure good governance & sensible policies. It is a tool of the state, used to boost popular support for the policies of whichever government is in power.“
