It’s time for the AEW World Championship Eliminator Championship Tournament, with the finalists meeting at Full Gear. Previously, Kenny Omega & Bryan Danielson have claimed the win in this tournament – and this year, the tournament kicks off with Ethan Page going one on one with Eddie Kingston. Page is sick of being overlooked, and a strong performance in this tournament will ensure that doesn’t happen again. Kingston meanwhile has been more angry than ever before in AEW – keeping attacks going after the bell, which could bite him tonight if he is able to defeat Page.
MJF Is Fired Up Ahead Of Full Gear
Before this match, we’d hear from MJF. He’s not been seen on AEW programming since The Firm beat him down – as he wants to be 110% for Full Gear. MJF views this as the most important match in professional wrestling, as it will be the crowning moment of the man who will lead the next generation of professional wrestling. He’s the next Hulk Hogan, the next Steve Austin, the next John Cena – the next generational talent in his sport.
MJF does not like Jon Moxley, but he respects him. He respects someone born with no athletic ability, who worked his ass off to become the greatest professional wrestler walking the earth today. However, it’s time for MJF to have a moment that won’t be overshadowed by a neck tattoo, Matt Hardy falling off a ladder, or some press conference. MJF is more dialled in than ever before, and intends to show this at Full Gear.
Ethan Page & Eddie Kingston Start The Tournament With A Bang
Kingston & Page have been bloody rivals over the past decade, with this being their first time meeting on worldwide TV. Page was taken into a headlock as this match began, before he was taken into the corner for some chops. Kingston would be dropped by a jumping shoulder tackle, and would roll on out to the floor.
Page would keep the beating coming, but back in the ring would be tossed with a butterfly suplex. Kingston would be driven into the corner, and on the floor – a suplex on the floor would take the breath of Kingston away. Page would go after the eyes of Kingston, before applying a tight headlock in the ring.
Kingston would be able to catch a jumping Page with an enziguri, only for Page to come back with a running powerslam out of the corner. Page would slow down with some elbow drops, which ended up being a mistake. Kingston had a chance to recover, and was able to catch Page with a suplex for a two count. They’d go blow for blow as they looked to reach their feet – but some heavy chops and a DDT from Kingston would get another near fall.
Exploder Suplex was followed by a Stretch Plum – with Page tapping out, while Stokely Hathaway took the attention of the referee. Kingston let the hold go, as Ortiz dealt with Hathaway. Page nailed a kick to the head, before going to the top rope. Kingston would follow him, but ended up tossed from the top rope with the Ego’s Edge. Page advances.
