Amber Heard’s drama is not over. At the time when all went quiet on the Amber Heard front, when people ‘forgot’ her and she got out of the headlines, she pushed herself back into the limelight again. This time for a different kind of lawsuit. However, again, revolving around Johnny Depp and the trial she lost against him.
The Aquaman actress filed a lawsuit against the insurance company that stood behind her insurance policy for the multimillion-dollar lawsuit. As we all know, Amber Heard lost the trial and needs to pay about $8.3 million to Johnny Depp. According to her, she is not the one who should pay the damages. It is the insurance company that should cover the losses from the trial.
Amber Heard Filed A Lawsuit Against Her Insurer – She Claims That They Have To Pay The $8.3 Million!
The insurer, New York Marine and General Insurance Co. tried to get away from it. They want to avoid paying the huge amount in Amber Heard’s name. According to California law, they are eligible to do so since the jury found Amber Heard guilty of willful misconduct.
However, Amber Heard will not accept this. According to the court documents, Amber Heard deems the deal between her and the insurance company unconditional. She ought to be protected by any means.
In the meantime, the situation between the two gets more and more complicated. Johnny Depp already filed an appeal on the court’s verdict. The reason is that he also doesn’t want to pay anything to Amber Heard. He wants to scrap the decision to pay the $2 million that the court awarded her.
The actress is in a somewhat desperate situation. She claims that she doesn’t have the needed money to pay off Johnny Depp. Seems like the insurance company is Amber Heard’s only way out. That’s why she stands firmly on her claim that New York Marine and General Insurance Co. are trying to breach the contract.
However, the insurers seem to be holding dearly to California law. That allows them to back off from the huge payment. The law doesn’t allow insurance companies to cover cases where the party under insurance took part in ‘willful acts’.
Before appealing the case, Amber Heard asked the judge to scrap the decision and declare a mistrial. The actress told the court that she believes Johnny Depp influenced one of the jurors. Furthermore, he was not eligible to take part in the jury as originally, the court summoned his father who has the same name.
