Over the last few years, we’ve heard more and more coming out about Vince McMahon and how he ran the WWE, and the information has increased the last few months since he retired from the WWE.
Vince had to step aside after it was discovered he paid out $12 million over the years to allegedly silence women about sexual incidents.
Former WWE Referee Says Vince McMahon Expected Employees to Work through Birthdays and Holidays
While the stories about him and his actions backstage aren’t the most flattering about him, and it’s been reported that employees are no longer keeping their heads down or feeling guilty if they don’t work past their quitting time.
It’s been pointed out that Vince has a near never ending supply of energy and expected his employees to work as hard as him, even if they had to work through their birthdays and holidays.
Always demanding
Former WWE referee Jack Doan appeared on Unskripted and talked about Vince’s demands on his employees’ time.
He also explained how Vince would financially compensate his employees to make sure they were financially secure and that he cared about their families.
“He was very demanding, very intense, very intimidating. He’d expect you to miss birthdays and holidays, but he took care of you financially. You know, family emergencies, he got you home. He cared about you and your family, but he was very, ‘This is your job. This is what I expect out of you; your payoff is I’m going to make you financially secure while you’re here.’ Not everybody is a Vince McMahon, you know? Not everybody can put that much energy into what you love and what you did.
“I’ll tell you a quick story. My old production manager … he got called on Christmas Day from Vince. This was probably 20 years ago, and Vince said, ‘Steve, I’ve got this idea!’ He said, ‘Vince, it’s Christmas. Nobody is working.’ And he goes, ‘I’m working!’”
There have been more than enough reports about Vince taking care of those he considered loyal or until they gave him reason not to consider them so.
A perfect example is Harley Race and how Vince paid for him to be flown to a different facility before he passed away. But there’s another side as well, like how he was reportedly loyal to the Fabulous Moolah after she agreed to screw Wendi Richter when she wanted equal pay.
In a curious twist, Vince agreed to pay the cost of the investigation. He’s a complicated individual to say the least.
