In a surprising but of news, Vince McMahon reportedly planned to bury GUNTHER after turning sour on the former NXT star following the WWE Raw episode on July 4.
It appears the plan was to bury GUNTHER on TV the following weeks and send him back to NXT after only being on the main roster for three months.
The news came from givemesport.com and WrestleVotes confirmed there’s a different feeling from Triple H when it comes to GUNTHER’s potential.
It was previously reported that GUNTHER impressed Vince with the way he hit the gym to appear on the main roster, but after a exchange with R-Truth and their following match on Raw, Vince allegedly wanted a change.
Given GUNTHER’s popularity, this would’ve been Vince’s second big mistake with the Superstar after he changed him name from WALTER to better fit an Axis of powers circa World War Two.
Thankfully for GUNTHER and WWE fans, Triple H views GUNTHER as being capable of main eventing for the company.
A fresh chance
GUNTHER can be a dominant heel that doesn’t need a world title as he can carry and give the same prestige to the Intercontinental Championship. In character, he could even view the world title as being beneath him.
But we’re sure there are bigger plans in store for him, especially after the awesome match GUNTHER and Sheamus had at Clash at the Castle as WrestleVotes explained.
“Gunther is going to be around for a long time. He’s got real potential as a heel, and he’s going be here for 10/12 years. He’s going to open some shows, he’s going to close some shows, but he’s just going to be a solid match every night. That’s what Hunters sees in him right now
“Hunter likes him and he’s going to give him a shot. People are starting to understand what he is and the Clash at the Castle deal with Sheamus helped.”
There’s no denying that GUNTHER has the potential to be a top star as he excels as a heel, but how far he can go will depend on fans’ reactions instead of a single individual and that’s as bog a break as one could ask for.
With GUNTHER now heading into a potential feud with Braun Strowman following the World Cup tournament, it’s going to be fun seeing how far Gunther can push himself.
Strowman will give him the chance to really show his ring general persona as he’ll get the chance to break Strowman down and remove his power advantage.
