Lately, we have seen a lot of Jay Lethal on AEW programming. The in-ring veteran has been turning out matches at a rapid pace ahead of Full Gear, where he will team with Jeff Jarrett to face Darby Allin & Sting. Formerly known for his time in Ring of Honor, Lethal is someone who is very loyal to the companies he works for – and right now, that makes him loyal to All Elite Wrestling & Tony Khan, meaning he is going nowhere.
Jay Lethal Will Stick With AEW Until He’s Fired, Retired, Or The Company Closes
While appearing on The Kurt Angle Show, Jay Lethal would take a moment to speak about his thoughts on being part of the AEW roster – and how he’ll be there until he’s fired or the company closes. Lethal was quoted saying the following.
“If a company is taking good care of you and you like them, and you guys respect each other, and there are no real issues, you can chat about the money later. Your loyalty and your word have got to mean something. I would have been in IMPACT Wrestling, I believe, to this day if they didn’t let me go. Ring of Honor, if they didn’t close down, I would still be wrestling for them to this day.
Things happen for a reason. Now, I am in AEW, which is amazing. It’s a godsend. Then, they bought Ring of Honor, but I’ll be at AEW until the company closes, they let me go, or they fire me, because, to me, in wrestling, if I’m going to put my body, my life, and my career on the line for you, I’ve got to appreciate and love you. There is some bond between us and I’m going to try my hardest to not ever break that bond. So, if you don’t break it, I’m not going to break it, and we’ll bond forever.”
Right now, Lethal has been with AEW for exactly one year. Since his debut at Full Gear 2021 – he’s worked 35 matches for the promotion, with 12 being on Dynamite and 6 being on Rampage. He’s had one PPV match, teaming with Motor City Machine Guns against FTR & Wardlow at All Out 2022.
