Right now in New Japan Pro Wrestling, we are seeing some future legends in the early years of their career. Recent classes of Young Lions have been progressing amazingly, with the likes of Ren Narita & Shota Umino recently making high profile returns to Japan – with Umino challenging for the IWGP United States Championship, and Narita set to battle for the NJPW World Television Championship at Wrestle Kingdom. However, another Young Lion who has gotten a lot of attention is Yuya Uemura, who Katsuyori Shibata has high hopes for.

Katsuyori Shibata Praises Yuya Uemura, Feels He’s Going To Be Big Deal When He Returns To Japan

During a recent interview with NJPW1972.com – Katsuyori Shibata would be asked about his thoughts on recent Young Lions, especially those who he’s helped train in the LA Dojo. When asked about Yuya Uemura, Shibata had the following to say.

“America really suits Uemura. He’s doing really well, and we’re training a lot together. He’s gotten a lot bigger as well. I’ve been teaching him some stuff I used to do that would fit with him as well, and it turns into both of us experimenting, connecting moves together. He’s a good training partner for me. I really feel when he gets back to Japan, he’s going to be a big, big deal; I’m interested in seeing what Narita does in the meantime. I really think when all these guys are back in Japan, it’s going to spark a major shift in New Japan.”

We recently seen Uemura making waves in Impact Wrestling, with him expected to return to Japan in early 2023. Uemura’s final match in Japan saw him lose to Kazuchika Okada, and be sent off on excursion with a stiff dropkick to the face – potentially setting up a massive return feud for him. On the same night, Yota Tsuij would also head out on excursion following a match with Tetsuya Naito, and recently had an excellent showing with Tomohiro Ishii at Royal Quest.

Do you think Uemura & Tsuji will be back in Japan soon? Let us know what you think in the comment section down below.

A wrestling fan practically since birth, who has been hooked since he got his first toy wrestling ring for Christmas as a child. Since getting access to the internet, he's watched more wrestling than he could ever remember from all around the world. It's hard to keep track of what happens in the wild world of professional wrestling, but he always tries to stay up to date. Note: No relation to Tully Blanchard of Four Horsemen fame (probably).
