We’ve all seen the photos of Iron Mike Tyson sitting in a wheelchair at an airport. That’s when the concerns about his health began. Now, Mike Tyson revealed that he is suffering from a rare medical condition called Sciatica.
As the unusual appearances of the ex-heavyweight champion, Mike Tyson, started piling up, fans started getting more and more concerned about his health condition. The one that overfilled the concerns glass was when he appeared in a wheelchair holding a walking stick.
Mike Tyson Suffers From Sciatica – Sometimes It’s So Severe That He Is Unable To Speak
Shortly after that he appeared in an interview for Newsmax TV and revealed what this was all about. He clarified the situation and specified what kind of medical condition ‘attacks’ him every once in a while.
“I have sciatica every now and then, it flares up. When it flares up, I can’t even talk! Thank God it’s the only health problem I have. I’m splendid now.” – Mike Tyson told Newsmax TV. “Everybody in my house is truly blessed and we’re all very grateful for whatever we have.”
Sciatica is nerve ‘damage’ that manifests in pain that ‘travels’ from one point in your body to another. In most cases, this is something that appears near the lower back and hips and travels down to the end of each of the legs. This is a common condition in weightlifters and bodybuilders, but it is not rare in boxers as well.
The pain starts as a herniated or slightly dislocated disc, or an overgrown bone starts putting pressure on some part of the nerve that travels down to your legs. The pressure causes feelings of pain that sometimes can last for months.
It is not the first time that Mike Tyson experiences such issues. Even his career ended on that note. ‘Back pain’ forced him to retire. In 2005 he pensioned off on the note that he cannot continue training with the back pain he feels.
Mike Tyson is a person that has lived to the fullest. He did not spare himself in the ring, or outside it. It is no secret that he had drug problems at one point in his life which as well contributed to his long-term health issues.
Recently, Tyson even mentioned on his podcast “Hotboxin with Mike” that he feels like he doesn’t have long left to live. He said that he starts feeling his age catching up on him already.
“We’re all gonna die one day of course. Then, when I look in the mirror, I see those little spots on my face.” – Tyson reveals. “I say, ‘Wow. That means my expiration date is coming close, really soon’.”
