Last year during World Tag League, a victory for Aaron Henare & Great-O-Khan over Tetsuya Naito & SANADA was one of the bigger shocks of the tournament. However, with Tetsuya Naito viewing this tournament as his last possible chance to have a marquee match at Wrestle Kingdom 17, and being former IWGP Tag Team Champions with SANADA? We can expect him to be more dialled in than ever before during a World Tag League tournament. Henare & Great-O-Khan are a solid tag team unit, but they might need to find another level to their game to walk away the victor in tonight’s main event. Add in O-Khan still suffering from the red mist of The Great Muta, and tonight might not be their night.
Tetsuya Naito & Great-O-Khan Wrestle Over A Book
Naito & GOK would start this match, with Naito asking GOK to sign a book for him. Naito would get down on his hands and knees to beg, and GOK agreed to put his signature on it. However, once Naito got it back, he tossed it aside and nearly stole the win with a jackknife pinfall. GOK would get the book back, before being yanked by his braid and kicked in the stomach.
They’d battle over this book, before Naito threw GOK from the ring and posed reading the book in the middle of the ring. GOK locked eyes with Naito, as the book was thrown up into the air with zero regard for its safety. SANADA & Henare would hit the ring together, with Henare running SANADA down with a shoulder tackle. Henare would block a sunset flip, before trying to apply the Paradise Lock to no success.
GOK tried to get information from Milano Collection A.T at ringside, but the man who popularised the move was giving nothing up. SANADA would land a dropkick in the ring, before L.I.J hit the double hip toss on Henare. Naito would take a Thesz Press from Henare, before some clubbing blows on the apron broke him down.
GOK would choke Naito with his braid, as Henare would hit some punches to the midsection. Naito would be used as the throne of GOK, holding him in place in the corner for a knee strike to the back from Henare. The crowd would rally behind Naito, before GOK would stand on the historically bad knees of Naito.
United Empire Dominate Their Opponents
Henare would take a PK and running senton from Henare, but was able to kick out. GOK would hit the Mongolian Chop, before applying an Iron Claw to the throat, and pondering why the referee was asking him to break it up. GOK tried to get Naito to kiss his boot, before Naito broke free. The neckbreaker would be blocked, but the single leg dropkick would not.
SANADA would get the tag and hit some dropkicks of his own, before blocking a Mongolian Chop from GOK and swinging him around. Henare caught SANADA with a punch, causing him to fall into a low blow to GOK – who rolled to the floor in pain. Back in the ring, GOK would show his Judo skills with a takedown before applying the Sheep Killer.
Naito tried to make the save, but GOK lifted SANADA and used him like a baseball bat, swatting Naito away. United Empire would double team SANADA, with him slipping free into the tag to Naito. Some clubbing blows to the neck would follow, before the slingshot dropkick in the corner would be blocked into an exploder suplex. Henare would miss the flying roundhouse kick, before taking elbows to the neck followed by an Enziguri from Naito and a backdrop from SANADA.
More elbows to the neck would follow, but the tornado DDT was blocked with the power of Henare. Berserker Bomb would follow, with SANADA barely making the save. Imperial Drop would be set by United Empire – but SANADA was able to make the save once again.
Great-O-Khan Uses The Evil Green Mist
The thirty minute time limit was becoming an issue, with United Empire trying to end things with the Imperial Drop. Naito would be able to block into a Destino, after SANADA yanked GOK from the ring. A proper Destino would be set up with the clubbing elbow smashes, but Henare managed a stiff knee smash to the face.
Ramage Tackle would follow, with Henare struggling to follow up. He’d position himself behind Naito for the Full Nelson Hold, and Naito would fight to ensure his fingers didn’t lock. GOK would throw the referee aside before trying to use the green mist. He’d miss his mark, spraying and blinding Henare instead.
SANADA took out GOK on the floor, and helped Naito with a big DDT before Destino for the finish. One win down, eight to go for SANADA & Naito. Will Tetsuya Naito find a starring role at Wrestle Kingdom? Let us know what you think in the comment section down below.
