Randy Orton is one of those rare talents that can turn from face to heel and back again within a minute just by giving a look, and he’s been missed from the WWE since he left in May to deal with an injured back.
There’s been no time table released, though it’s been expected since he first left that he’d likely be out the rest of the year.
Randy Orton Out Indefinitely Following Back Surgery
While the WWE and Orton have remained tight lipped about what he’s dealing with, it was reported that he suffered a significant back injury after he last wrestled on the May 20 episode of WWE Smackdown when RK-Bro lost the Tag Team Unification Match to the Usos.
The first real break in news about his health came from Fightful Select when they reported that Orton had a fusion in his lower back and he’ll remain on the sidelines for an extended period of time.
His wife gave it away
His wife indicated the surgery already happened when she posted an Instagram photo on November 14 for their anniversary.
“7 wonderful years with the man of my dreams. You’re bat shit crazy (but so am I) I trust you, and you trust me ♥️ we could conquer the fucking world together (if we feel like it) but for now I just want you to be my daddy and me to be your momma and raise our beautiful children together as one big happy family. FAMILY♥️LOVE♥️LOYALTY♥️ we have that tattooed on our bodies because it’s the most important thing to us. ME, YOU, OUR FAMILY AND CLOSE FRIENDS, that’s all that matters. Thank you for loving me the way you do @randyorton Happy Anniversary my love ♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️ btw. If y’all only knew why this pic was taken 😂😎🤷🏻♀️😘 #insicknessandinhealth”
The conclusion of her post where she said if we only knew why the pic was taken and the hashtag #insicknessandinhealth got fans talking about that being when he had surgery.
They have been reports that some in WWE said they’d consider themselves fortunate to have him back after his long career and the type of injury he sustained, which could provoke speculation of him retiring.
It wouldn’t be unheard of if he can’t continue to perform at a high level, but that’s up to him and his family.
On thing that’s curious to note is there hasn’t been any word on whether his time out with injury will be added to the end of his contract as is customary or not. Currently, his contract is due to run out at the end of 2024, but things could change at any time.
