Monday Night Raw has historically struggled to fill three hours with consistently interesting storylines and wrestling since they started doing three hours. Vince brought the quality down to some of the worse wrestling shows that we have seen on television in a long time. Even though HHH has made a great effort to make it better, here are some ideas that they can do to make it better.
What Can Be Done to Fix Monday Night Raw in the Short Term
With three hours to fill every Monday night, I think that introducing a title to be below the United States title would help drastically.
Seth and Bobby are doing great in the main event of the show and are clearly doing their best to make the show watchable but it just isn’t enough.
Another title could give a lot of the other talent on the show something to do. It would be equivalent to the European title back in the late 90s and serve as a gateway to the United States title.
I know that eventually the WWE World title will return to Monday Night Raw, but they can still build up another title to occupy time on a three hour show.
The new title would be a title that people like Gargano, Ciampa, Damian Priest, Dominick, Chad Gable, and many others around that space can go after.
The champion, like the Roman Reigns and GUNTHER on Smackdown, don’t have to be on the show every week in order to make the championship mean something and show that people want it.
Seth is severely overworked and even though he is great, I think that he needs rest and could do with some time off television every now and then. He can’t take a rest for a week every month because if he isn’t there, then what is the reason to have Raw?
The stuff with the Judgement Day, the OC, and a few other things is solid, but what about everything else?
What Can Be Done to Fix Monday Night Raw in the Long Term
This is a loaded question. The most obvious answer is to get one of those world titles back on the show, but that is going to happen eventually.
The biggest question though is what happened to Monday Night Raw’s tag team division? Did Braun Stroman kill the division when he destroyed them on his return?
They need tag teams over there especially when you look at Smackdown and can not only see the ONLY tag team champions in the company, but they also have about eight or nine other tag teams which I’ll tell you, is a VERY good tag team division for an entire company.
This is just the tag team division for one brand. Raw could do great with some more tag teams but where would they get them from?
Leave all of the teams on Smackdown alone and either put some together or get some from NXT (even though there aren’t many down there to pick from).
Also, one of the biggest issues on Raw, which isn’t obvious, is the lack of fresh talent. If you look at Raw, then look at Smackdown, there is a clear difference in talent and new people on the show.
I love Gargano and Ciampa, but they aren’t enough. The other people that they got include Dexter Lumis, Baron Corbin, Iyo Sky, Bayley, Dakota Kai, and Nikki Cross. Smackdown has Santos Escobar, LA Knight, Braun Strowman, Bray Wyatt, Rey Mysterio, Solo, Karion Kross… see the difference?
If Monday Night Raw continues to get new talent, they need some people with more impact. I can see a few people from NXT like Bron Breaker and a few more of the big names down there making an impact.
They could even dedicate a little time every week to NXT talent to get them ready to come up.
