For as much grief as I give AEW overall, AEW Dark is the reason why I like AEW and what I seek out more from them. On this episode, we got to see QT Marshal and The Factory in action, as well as Private Party, Brian Cage, and Matt Hardy.
The Good from AEW Dark
In my opinion, the parts about AEW Dark and Dark Elevation will always be that I get to see some of AEW’s lesser used wrestlers. This could possibly give me insight into who could be the next big star for AEW as well as who could be a useful part of their roster.
This show started out with The Factory taking on three enhancement talents in six-man tag action. I liked it because it showcased two members of The Factory and allowed them to pick up a win.
I would’ve liked for this match to get a little more time but its to be expected when you’re not trying to get one side over at all.
Next, Hikaru Shida won her match, but that wasn’t the highlight. The best part is that this is actually one of the best women’s matches that I’ve seen on Dark or Dark Elevation.
The match was short but I have to give them credit for being crisp with their moves and not looking robotic like most of the women’s matches on these shows. I think Lucy Luciano (I think that’s her correct name) could go somewhere if AEW wanted to invest the time in her.
Moving on, while I’m not a big fan of Brian Cage, I did like what I saw out of his opponent, Tony Deppen. He has a look that screams scrappy underdog babyface. I think that if he maybe got into slightly better shape and got a slight tan, that AEW could push him without him having to go on a winning streak. Have him lose to BS often and the fans will get behind him more than they was on this episode.
“Pretty” Peter Avalon looks like someone who don’t belong anywhere around a ring but his character is so entertaining to me. If not for his ring skills, I wouldn’t mind having him and the Wingmen around for comedy and to lose.
Also, in this match against Private Party and Matt Hardy, they had even a little bit of storyline with Ethan Page and The Firm owning the rights to Private Party’s contract.
The final segment on the show was the highlight for me. The interaction between Matt Hardy and Ethan Page was great. I was ready to write Matt Hardy off, but he was actually very good here.
I think that this is a storyline that Ethan Page can come out victorious and that’s how someone like Matt Hardy should be used.
This is something that I think they could do more of on Dark and Dark Elevation. Everything don’t have to be storyline, but at least half.
