As always, along with what was good with AEW Dark this week, there has to be some bad. Lucky for me, the bad was not bad wrestling like it has been before, its more confusion and me (and sometimes the commentators) not knowing what is going on or what is supposed to be happening during a match.
The Bad from AEW Dark
The show opened with Tay Melo wrestling a wrestler making her AEW debut. There wasn’t anything really bad about the match, it was a squash and squash matches are made to make someone look good. In this case it was Tay Melo.
The issue that I had with this match is that it didn’t do their job. If I hadn’t seen Tay Melo matches before, I would think that she is some random wrestler that supposed to be wrestling people pf this level.
Not only did I learn nothing about Tay Melo through this match, but I didn’t learn about her moves, her personality, or anything near this. The only thing that I took from this match is that she has some type of complicated submission move that she ended the match with. I don’t think that it is her finisher because the commentary team had no idea what she was doing.
I had a hard time putting the match between Zack Clayton and Steve Pena into the good side. I don’t think that the match itself was bad. I actually liked that Pena got some offense but I just don’t know what Zack Clayton is or why I should care about him.
The crowd seemed into him but he is a heel. It is 2022, and that’s what wrestling fans today do. The crowd seemed all over the place though. They cheered him at first, then booed him while cheering Pena, then cheered him again after he won. What’s going on?
I know that Eddie Kingston is a fan favorite but the Kingston and Ortiz vs Slim J and Jeeves Kay looked like a tag team match straight out of the indies. Kingston and Ortiz had wrestling gear that looked like what people might wear on the streets on a daily basis.
Slim J wasn’t any better with his attire. There was only one person out of four that actually looked like they were wrestlers and that is not something that you want a random person to look at and think.
I don’t think the match was very good either. In my opinion, it shouldn’t have been in the main event of the show even if it is Dark, especially since there was another match that was much better than this one.
On a side note, with all of the hiring that Tony Khan has been doing, please hire someone that knows what to do with big guys. You got Big Show and Mark Henry working for you. Talk to them about it.
Each week that I see Parker Boudreaux, he somehow looks worse and worse. I am going to leave his terrible looking tattoos alone and bring up his gear. It looks absolutely terrible. The glasses, the ugly singlet, the chains, and for some reason, a vest. What is going on with this guy?
Back to the match, its possible that I may be missing something or that it just isn’t for me but this was not good at all, and I am usually very interested in the Trustbusters on Dark.
