This week on AEW Dark, we see some good action and some good talent being put on display. The in ring work this week was mostly solid and these are the good parts of a surprisingly short episode of AEW Dark.
The Good from AEW Dark
On this show, we got back-to-back squash matches. The second match on the show that featured The Factory wasn’t bad though. Lee Johnson and Cole Karter looked good with their victory. QT Marshall was there too but I honestly don’t think that he was needed.
I would’ve preferred this to be a tag team match or grab one of the other guys in The Factory and let them take QT’s spot. I am not sure about the experience level of the guys in the Factory, but from the little bit that I have seen of them, they can put on a 5 min squash match without QT being in it.
I think that the match between Kip Sabian and Tony Deppen was very good. I am still a little turned off by Kip Sabian’s in ring mannerisms, like the way that he plays to the crowd like a babyface while being a heel. He does it at random throughout his matches which slows the match down for no reason.
There is no complaint about his actual in ring work though. Everything that he did look good and crisp. I think the highlight of this match though, was Tony Deppen. He came in with an 0-2 record and absolutely carried his own during the match.
I have now seen three matches from Deppen and even though he doesn’t have a good look for a star, I could see him working his way up to the Mid Atlantic Championship as an underdog baby face. The crowd was very much into him as a good guy during this match.
MVP of the Show: Tony Deppen
