With everything that is good, there must be bad. I know that AEW Dark Elevation is a show that wrestlers sometimes use to get more experience in the ring, so instead of the things being bad, they could just be critiques.
The Bad from AEW Dark Elevation
Starting off, I wasn’t the biggest fan of the Emi Sakura and The Bunny tag team match. Watching it, they had more time than the first women’s match and the match looked better, but for some reason, Emi Sakura’s act turns me off.
Her mannerisms throughout the match slows down a match that is usually already pretty slow. If you are going to do this, at least let the mannerisms be interesting.
Last week, I was probably kind of harsh on the multi-man match involving Eddie Kingston. This week I am going to do the same. While I thought that it was a dislike of Eddie Kingston in the ring, I think it might be Ortiz that I am not fond of.
Like Emi Sakura, he has his stick that he does in the ring, and while the crowd seems in to it, I am not. I would’ve preferred a singles match between Kingston and Hagane Shinno. Steven Andrews was fine but we didn’t get enough of him for me to say more.
Match wise, everything else was pretty good to great. Something else that has to go on the bad list is the noticeable difference between the Dark and Dark Elevation announcing team.
Paul Wright sound like he is just getting his feet under him as color commentator and his partner isn’t the best play by play person. Given some time, I think Wright will be just fine.
Something that I think could fix this is to swap color commentators on the show but Taz and Excalibur are great together, so I would just ride this team out.
Lastly, I’ve noticed that the crowd for Dark and Dark Elevation is strange. It is normal in wrestling nowadays, to boo the face and cheer the heel. This crowd was booing the babyface when she got offense on the heel (Athena), but as soon as she motioned to the crowd to cheer her, they did.
Do we like her or do we not like her. Sure, she was an enhancement talent with a 0-1 record, but I have seen wrestlers debuting that don’t get that kind of treatment.
