Ethan Page is about to enter what could possibly be the biggest singles match of his career, which came about after he would interrupt Bryan Danielson‘s recent promo about MJF. Danielson is simply itching for a fight, needing an outlet for his grief regarding the vicious attack on his mentor William Regal – and Page is the perfect opponent right now. Both Danielson & Page have had excellent years – Danielson having a 14-6 record in singles matches, and Page having a 14-5 record. This is the final episode of AEW Dynamite of the year, and both men want to start the new year with as much momentum as possible, and this is their chance to do just that.
MJF Watches Bryan Danielson From A Safe Distance
Before this match could begin, the music of the AEW World Champion MJF would hit – and he was watching from his Skybox with a message for Brain Damage Bryan. This would cause a distraction, allowing for Page to attack Danielson, before he’d yell up the skybox. Page would hit a set of body slams, and kept the pressure on.
Danielson would be able to launch himself over Page in the corner, before hitting the rope for the running elbow strike. Page would take some chops and kicks in the corner, before coming back with some strikes of his own. His martial arts background would let him stand a chance against Danielson, until he took the Kitchen Sink knee strike to the midsection.
Danielson would look to apply the Romero Special, but would instead attack the nose and stomp the knees. A grounded Dragon Screw would be followed by a stomp to the ankle, Danielson trying to ground Page. This wouldn’t work, as Page would run Danielson down with a shoulder tackle before some mounted punches.
Another body slam would land, before Danielson was set up on the top rope for a Superplex.Page was knocked to the floor with a headbutt, before the Missile Dropkick would land. Stokely Hathaway would get on the apron to distract Danielson, before Page tried to get the cheap shot – only to be sent to the floor.
Danielson would keep the pressure on with a suicide elbow strike, before rolling Page into the ring. Stokely would run another distraction, allowing Page to get the pump kick to the face – sending Danielson tumbling to the floor. Page would follow up with a stiff elbow strike and throwing Danielson face first into the ring post – before saying that he will be the face of AEW in 2023.
Bryan Danielson Takes Down All Ego
Back into the ring, Page would hit some downward punches to the face of Danielson before another body slam in the middle of the ring. He would ask if this is actually the best wrestler in the world, as he nailed Danielson with another heavy elbow smash. The vertical suplex would see Danielson land on his feet before dropping him with a German Suplex.
Danielson would throw uppercuts, before hitting the drop toehold into the corner. Chops and round kicks would follow, with Page then set up on the top rope for a super hurricanrana. Buzzsaw Kick was avoided, but Page was sent back to the floor for the Wrecking Ball dropkick and flying knee strike – with Stokely pushing Page out of the way.
Danielson was thrown into the ring steps before Page instantly threw him up into a powerslam. Back in the ring, Page would slingshot into a cutter – getting a two count. Danielson tried to stomp the head in, but was picked up into a powerslam only to block with a DDT before the Buzzsaw Kick got a two count.
Page got his leg on the bottom rope with a LeBell Lock, with Danielson looking for a Flying Headbutt but getting caught. Avalanche Powerslam would follow, with Danielson still able to kick out. Ego’s Edge would be set, with Danielson able to slip free and hit the Running Knee Smash. Page had his head stomped in, and was out before Danielson even applied the submission.
