Right now, the AEW roster is working hard to make AEW TV must see once again. We have a new AEW World Champion in MJF, new Women’s Champion in Jamie Hayter, and even a new TNT Champion in Samoa Joe. Joe was able to take advantage of Wardlow to win the belt in a Triple Threat at Full Gear, ending his reign at 136 Days. Wardlow had won the belt from Scorpio Sky, who never got his rematch due to injury – but Sky is now back and potentially ready to collect.
Scorpio Sky Has Been Ready To Return For A While
This would first be reported by Fightful Select, who noted that Sky has been cleared to return for a while now. It’s likely AEW was just working to find an open spot in a storyline to work Sky back into TV. Prior to being injured, Sky was working alongside Ethan Page & Dan Lambert. However, since then – Page has formed his own faction alongside Stokely Hathaway in The Firm, and Lambert has stepped away from AEW to focus on American Top Team.
This gives AEW a chance to bring back Sky as a babyface. He’s normally been one of the more popular names on the roster, and his heel persona never really was able to catch on. Coming back from an injury generally means a clean slate, unless there’s a storyline to build off of – like we are seeing with Hangman Page & Jon Moxley.
Beyond being owed a shot at the TNT Championship, there’s not much for Sky to immediately do – which is likely why AEW has held off on his return. AEW are running AEW Revolution in California however, so we can expect Sky back for that event – possibly even making a big return in the Face of the Revolution Ladder match, which Sky won in 2021.
Sky signed a new five year contract earlier this year with AEW, putting him with the company through 2027. That would indicate that they have plans to make him into a potential main event star – something fans have wanted since the early days of the company. Sky could even end up being the first AEW Grand Slam champion, being a former TNT & Tag Team Champion.
