Elon Musk has held his hands up after a major blunder in which he labelled Norway’s foreign minister and the relevant team as belonging to Nigeria on Twitter.
Elon Musk Apologises For Insulting The Norwegian Foreign Ministry After Confusing Them With Nigeria Following Wrong Twitter Label
According to reports, the Norwegian Ministry of Foreign Affairs Twitter account reached out to Musk in order to highlight that the mistake had been made. In the image here, we can see that the organisation has posed a screenshot of the mistake.
They have circled the description, which stated Nigeria government organisation, in red directly below their Twitter handle, Norway MFA.
The post was captioned by the following comments: “Dear @TwitterSupport, as much as we enjoy our excellent bilateral relations and close alphabetical vicinity with Nigeria, we would much appreciate if you could label us as Norway.
“P.S. That also goes for Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Støre and Foreign Minister Anniken Huitfeldt.” That was a major blunder for Musk in light of his recent takeover of Twitter.
The Tesla CEO has vowed to improve the functionality of the platform, as well as trying to promote freedom of speech. And yet, the fact that the label was added even if incorrect has been justified by the platform previously.
It has been done in an attempt to root out fake accounts that may be impersonating real ones, thus preventing the rise of misinformation.
Regardless of that reasoning, Elon came out immediately in order to apologise and clear up the situation. In response, he remarked: “Sorry.”
The fans on social media were left shocked by the blunder. People simply could not get their heads around the fact that Elon had mixed up two completely different countries. One person wrote: “Norway, am I having that he got them mixed up.”
This was clearly not Elon’s finest moment, but it will serve as a lesson for him to be more vigilant. So there you have it folks. What did you think about this? Let us know your thoughts in the comments section below.
