There was a lot of truly shocking moments to be found in WWE in 2022. From the return of Cody Rhodes, to the retirement of Vince McMahon – it’s been a roller coaster of a year to say the least. However, perhaps the most enduring shock will be the return to in-ring action of the legendary “Stone Cold” Steve Austin. Night one of WrestleMania 38 was advertised to end with an edition of the Kevin Owens show, but that turned into a No DQ match between Austin & Owens in Texas.
This Match Could Only Happen With Kevin Owens
While speaking to the New York Post, Kevin Owens would have a chance to speak about just how baffling this match happening in hindsight was. Owens was quoted saying the following.
“I still don’t have a full grasp on how that happened. All I know is I was told by several people, from Steve to Vince McMahon to Bruce Prichard, it couldn’t have been anybody other than you — meaning me — with Steve. I’m not sure who suggested it, who asked for it or how it came about. One day I’ll find out. But the point is that it’s extremely flattering to me that those three all thought I was the best choice. There’s really no higher compliment than that for me.”
Owens Is Invaluable In WWE
It’s moments like this that show how much WWE trusts Kevin Owens, and that will make him someone who remains loyal to WWE for the remainder of his career. Despite not being a constant World Champion like Roman Reigns, Owens is the ultimate utility player in WWE, someone who hits a homerun with every single chance given – be it wrestling a legend, returning to NXT to enter a WarGames match or being gaslit by Elias for several months.
