While Kurt Angle is mainly known as being a legend of WWE, he spent the bulk of his career in TNA Wrestling (now Impact Wrestling), where he was a multi-time world champion. Working with Impact from 2006 to 2016, Angle was involved in many of the biggest angles the promotion ever ran – but didn’t find himself linked into the massive Aces & Eights angle despite being a top star in the company.
Kurt Angle Was Never Planned To Join Aces & Eights
During the latest episode of “The Kurt Angle Show” podcast, Angle would be asked if he was asked to be part of the Aces & Eights faction during their run in 2013. Angle would have the following to say in response.
“No. no, they didn’t. I’m glad they didn’t. I don’t think I would have liked being a part of it. I know this – if I would have went in, I wouldn’t have been one of the top guys. I would have been hanging out in the mid card somewhere so that it wouldn’t have help me at any point in time.”
Angle would go on to say that Aces & Eights was a cool angle at the start, but grew out of control – much like the nWo.
“That was the problem, the Aces & Eights storyline took over TV. It got so big. Same exact thing happened with the nWo in WCW. It was a cool little faction, then all of sudden it grew and out of control. They were just too many. At this point in time, there were a lot of members of Aces & Eights.”
Mixed Views Looking Back On The Angle
Angle would stand alongside the Main Event Mafia against Aces & Eights instead. Aces & Eights would disband on the November 21st, 2013 episode of Impact Wrestling, and had a brief revival in 2022 represented by Wes Briscoe & Garett Bischoff – who were unsuccessful in a match against Honor No More. The angle has a mixed view by fans in 2022, with many feeling it started out fine but quickly grew to be a bore.
