One of the main driving forces behind wrestlers performing when they’re hurt and exhausted is to keep their spot.
Of course, the main driving force is they generally don’t get paid if they don’t work, but if they lose their spot then they also potentially may never get it back and that hinders them making money.
Lacey Evans gave birth a few months back and worked herself back into shape to return to the ring six weeks afterwards so she wouldn’t lose her spot.
It’s the type of dedication and work ethic one would expect from a Marine, but it also speaks to the type of character she has in general and what’s helped her get so far in life.
Never give up
She appeared with Brandi Rhodes on 2 Lies and 1 Truth where she explained her desire to get back as soon as possible.
“It’s been different, emotionally. You know, when I started with WWE, I had a child, she was very young, but she was not six weeks old. So not many people know this. But I actually went back, I was at the PC, training, six weeks to the day postpartum. It was difficult, more so emotionally, it was — even still now, you know when you’re breastfeeding, and you’re raising this just this tiny baby that needs you every second. That was the hardest part, I think, it is the hardest part is her being so young and needing me on such an intimate level. So, I just have to make it work.”
Evans elaborated on her attitude and work ethic.
“Don’t make excuses and work your ass off. You keep a regimen, you have to wake up, no matter how tired you are. I had a low thyroid problem and I had gestational diabetes for both of my pregnancies. So, it was nothing new for these obstacles and I took it from the beginning, I assumed the second I got pregnant, this is what I’m going to be dealing with, and this is what I need to face. I just made sure to, every day, do something. I stick with the squats. I still worked out. Upper body every single day, low weights, high reps, whatever I could do. Just to make sure I didn’t lose my spot completely within WWE. It’s competition. So, it’s up to you to stay in there.”
There are two words that get thrown around a lot – Inspiration and hero. Evans fits both of those perfectly. After everything she’s been through, it’d be easy for her to roll over and find an easy way but she’s refused to at every step.
It’s that determination that is why she succeeds, and with news that she’s being rebranded on Smackdown we can’t wait to see where her attitude and work ethic take her next.
One thing is for sure, it’s going to be fun seeing her rise to the top once again.
