When Lance Archer made his debut for All Elite Wrestling in 2020, fans were excited to see what he could do as he finally had a chance to be presented as a star in North America. Prior to signing with AEW, Archer had been able to find his place as a singles wrestler in New Japan Pro Wrestling, taking the nickname the “Murderhawk Monster”, and having a star making performance in the G1 Climax tournament. However, even with the legendary Jake ‘The Snake’ Roberts by his side – Archer has found it hard to find TV time in AEW, leading to some major frustrations.
Lance Archer Is Grateful To Be In AEW, Just Knows What He Should Be Doing Instead Of Sitting Around
While appearing on Busted Open Radio with Tommy Dreamer, Archer had a chance to explain his recent frustrated comments about not being used in AEW during a promo in New Japan Pro Wrestling. Archer had the following to say.
“Everybody lets something out here and there once in a while. There’s a little bit of angst coming out in that one. Like I said in the promo, I just come in and I kick ass. I don’t kiss anybody’s ass. Everybody can see that I do my part. It’s up to other people.
I don’t take away anything from my time with every company that I’ve been a part of. The fact that you’re congratulating me on the successful stuff that I’ve gotten to do in Japan recently is all because the company allows me to do it. There’s not a lot of places and opportunities that can and do allow the talent to go and be a part of other bookings and other companies and other places.
So I’m very grateful for my job. I don’t want my frustration to come across as I’m being ungrateful or not happy with the job that I do have. I just know what I could be doing and what I should be doing. Like I said, it kind of boils over once in a while. It’s not a knock on anybody in particular. It’s just the situation at hand and I know what I could and should be doing.”
Archer As A Tool To Improve The Relationship Between AEW & NJPW
It’s hard to consider Archer in the wrong for being frustrated with his lack of chances in AEW – considering he’s knocked every chance given out of the park. He’s become a master at maximising his minutes whenever he gets on AEW TV, which most recently saw him wrestle Ricky Starks, helping Starks rise to the main event level. Archer is not getting any younger, and right now is in his prime years.
You can view AEW’s usage of Archer as helping them bridge their relationship with NJPW, given Archer’s status as a proven draw in Japan. However, seeing him steal shows in Japan and still not being used in AEW almost makes his situation sting even more. We can only hope that Archer finally gets his chance to shine in 2023, or he simply allowed to work in Japan full time instead.
