Former counter terror chief Neil Basu said police had investigated ‘many’ credible threats against Meghan Markle while she lived in Britain.
Meghan Markle Received Death Threats-Says Former Counter Terror Chief Neil Basu
The Duchess of Sussex has been subject to ‘disgusting’ and ‘very real’ threats, according to the Metropolitan Police’s Assistant Commissioner of Specialist Operations, who is retiring.
It is not exactly clear what the nature of the threats were, but based on some of the things that have happened with the Royal Family in the past, it is possible to suggest they were serious.
After all, there was the infamous 1994 incident in Sydney, Australia in which David Kang fired blank shots towards King Charles III during his time as Prince of Wales.
Not only that, but an intruder had been arrested on Christmas Day in 2021 after trying to break into Windsor Castle as the late Queen Elizabeth II was celebrating the holidays.
With that being said, this demonstrated that there were people willing to take risks to frighten those connected to the firm. Neil’s following comments confirmed as much: “Absolutely [credible threats].
“And if you’d seen the stuff that was written and you were receiving it… the kind of rhetoric that’s online, if you don’t know what I know, you would feel under threat all of the time.”
The fans on social media had a lot to say about the matter. A significant proportion of them detested the idea that people were being threatened but they also recognised that this was something prevalent with all members of the firm.
One person wrote: “I’m sure she did, sure they all do. Just last Yr was a guy at Windsor with a weapon intended for Queen. Attempted kidnap, shots fired, some right scary folk among us who got really close to harming the royal family.”
Now that Meghan is no longer in the Royal Family, this is something that may die down moving forward. So there you have it folks. What did you think about this? Let us know your thoughts in the comments section below.
