World Tag League is coming to a close, and one team who has grown a lot over the past month is the LA Dojo duo of Alex Coughlin & Gabriel Kidd. Now taking the team name “Mechanical Bulls” they look to end their tournament with a victory, as they take on Minoru Suzuki & Lance Archer. When Suzuki & Archer were announced for the tournament, it seemed a foregone conclusion that they would be factored into the finals – but their 3-5 record tells the true story. They won’t be overlooking Coughlin & Kidd here tonight, and being beaten by recently graduated Young Lions might push Suzuki over the edge.
Minoru Suzuki & Lance Archer Always Welcome The Violent Approach
Kidd would hit the ring dressed more for a street fight than a match, carrying a steel chair. He made his intentions to go after Suzuki clear, but wouldn’t attack before the bell. Instead, he’d call Suzuki to the rampway for a brawl – with Suzuki arming himself with a chair. Archer had already gone after Coughlin with some knee strikes, as Suzuki and Kidd fought with chairs.
They’d move to headbutts, before Suzuki just levelled Kidd with a chop to the face. Back to ringside, Kidd was bashed with a chair – before finally getting him into the ring. Archer would whip Kidd into the corner hard before some rough mounted punches to the face. Kidd was bleeding from the mouth, and Suzuki would keep the damage coming while shrugging off weak return shots.
Finally, Kidd would be able to hit a suplex on Suzuki – and had a chance to tag in Coughlin. The Android & Murder Hawk Monster would clash in the middle of the ring with shoulder ackles, before Coughlin ducked a crossbody and hit a Northern Lariat. Suzuki & Archer would work together in cutting Coughlin down, before Kidd saved him from the Gotch Style Piledriver.
Archer was dropped with a suplex, and Coughlin tried to powerbomb Kidd into a senton… but took two attempts to actually connect. Coughlin was dropped with the Blackout moments later, and this one was over. Suzuki-gun finishes at 8 points, and Minoru Suzuki still has plans for an announcement on December 14th.
Hiroshi Tanahashi & Toru Yano Were Already Locked Out From Finals
Hiroshi Tanahashi was banking on World Tag League paying off for him, with it being one of his final routes to a match at Wrestle Kingdom 17. However, losing to House of Torture blocked him team with Toru Yano out from the finals. Tonight, they face another team without a chance of making the finals of Great-O-Khan & Aaron Henare. For previous years of World Tag League, Tanahashi teamed with Henare – which helped push Henare towards joining the United Empire.
Henare & Tanahashi would kick the match off, with Tanahashi applying a tight side headlock. Henare would shove his way free, before hitting a shoulder tackle. Tanahashi would set up the springboard crossbody out of the corner, before Yano got the tag. O-Khan met him in the ring, but was more than ready for his antics, blocking a swing of the corner pad and choking Yano with the braid.
Mongolian Chops would follow in the corner, which were followed by some clubbing blows over the top rope to the chest by Henare. Yano would get a chance for a tag by yanking the braid of O-Khan, allowing Tanahashi to get into the match. A set of Dragon Screw leg whips would follow, before the Somersault Senton out of the corner.
No All United Empire Finals For 2022
Yano would hold O-Khan in place for a running forearm, only for O-Khan to avoid – before shoving Tanahashi into Yano. Henare hit some dragon screws on Tanahashi, before attempting the Cloverleaf Hold – only to be kicked off and dropped with Twist & Shout. Yano would hit a front suplex, before being dropped for a running senton.
Yano would catch Henare with a Manhattan Drop, before hitting a slingshot into the corner. Tanahashi hit the ring for a slingblade, before Henare took the Dragon Palm from Tanahashi into a roll up. O-Khan was taken out, and Henare had to fight off the powerbomb, hitting the Rampage Tackle for a near fall. Imperial Drop would follow, and United Empire finish with 10 points.
