This tournament has not gone as planned for Yoshinobu Kanemaru & DOUKI, who find themselves on the outside looking in. They’re unable to make the finals now, even if they win every single match – and will instead have to settle for playing the role of spoiler. Tonight, KUSHIDA and “The Jet ” Kevin Knight will have to claim the win or find themselves eliminated – which makes Kanemaru & DOUKI a dangerous duo indeed.
Kevin Knight & KUSHIDA Get Locked Out From Finals
KUSHIDA would start with DOUKI, nearly sending him out of the ring with an armdrag. DOUKI would hit an arm drag of his own in the middle of the ring, before Knight would get the tag. He’d take turns with KUSHIDA in wrenching on the arm of DOUKI, before a double armbreaker.
Kanemaru rushed the ring, but was taken down with a shoulder tackle. DOUKI would duck a charging KUSHIDA, causing him to trip out to the floor and right into the barricade. KUSHIDA would be driven crotch first into the ring post, causing some intense pain on the floor.
Kanemaru & DOUKI would work on the knee of KUSHIDA in their corner, only for KUSHIDA & DOUKI to meet in the middle of the ring as they both jumped for crossbodies. Kanemaru would take the Too Fly Dropkick from Knight, before heading to the top rope and being dropped with a Frankensteiner.
DOUKI would take the next dropkick, before Kanemaru avoided the Doomsday Dropkick. Hip Toss into Dropkick would be followed by a Twisting Body Press. Kanemaru would be placed in the middle of the ring, with Knight making it there on the splash – only to take two knees to the midsection.
Knight would take a moonsault, with KUSHIDA barely making the save. Daybreak DDT and the Vertical Drop Brainbuster – and Kanemaru & DOUKI get the win. Knight & KUSHIDA can no longer make the finals.
Hiroshi Tanahashi & Toru Yano Find Their Finishing Combo
Over the past few weeks, we’ve seen Alex Coughlin & Gabriel Kidd work out the kinks in their tag team in real time. They’ve stopped accidently hitting each other, and now they just need to find out how to get a victory before it’s too late. That starts tonight, as they face potential elimination if they are unable to defeat two legends of NJPW in Hiroshi Tanahashi & Toru Yano, known together as Be-Bop Tag Team.
Coughlin & Kidd would attack before the bell, with Kidd hitting the Mongolian Chops and a big dropkick to Tanahashi for a near fall. Tanahashi came back with the springboard body press, with Yano exposing a corner for Kidd to be thrown into. Kidd would expose the opposite corner, and would drop Yano with the pad.
Coughlin tagged in for some heavy chops, before taking a Manhattan Drop and being yanked to the mat by his hair. Tanahashi would go for the Slingblade but was caught into a Blue Thunder Bomb. Kidd would be thrown into a lariat on Tanahashi before a superkick set up the Fallaway Slam from Coughlin.
The Tenzan Moonsault would be avoided, before Kidd was dropped with a slingblade. Kidd took the powerbomb from Yano, before a High Fly Flow from Tanahashi. BeBop Tag Team now have a clear tag team finisher – which might make them hard to defeat at this point.
