The timing of the trailer appears questionable because Harry and Meghan are ‘high profile’ and everything they do reflects on the royal family, says royal expert Charles Rae.
This is always going to be the case as long as the couple continue to have the Duke and Duchess of Sussex titles. While there have been calls to scrap the titles, as shown by the online petitions, nothing has happened as of yet.
Therefore, it has given licence to the couple to continue being outspoken to the media. And with Harry’s upcoming memoir, Spare, set to follow through in the New Year, it is full speed ahead.
In his comments, Rae said: “I think he has taken millions of [dollars] to throw his own family under the bus.” Nevertheless, those comments are questionable for the following reasons.
First of all, the fact that Prince William and Kate Middleton were booed in the US when they attended a basketball game had nothing to do with the Sussexes.
It was William’s godmother, Lady Susan Hussey, that had to resign from the firm after she had faced backlash after repeatedly asking charity head, Ngozi Fulani, where she was from.
And given that the Sussexes had alleged that someone in the firm had reservations about Archie’s skin colour in the Oprah Winfrey interview, those claims have to be re-examined in light of this.
Secondly, William and Kate are not going to receive as much popularity in the US than the UK since they do not have a mainstay presence there.
And yet, Rae was still shocked by the trailer. His following comments confirmed as much: “I couldn’t believe what we were seeing.”
