Prince William recited an excerpt from a Christmas speech made by his grandmother, the late Queen Elizabeth II, back in 2012 at this year’s Christmas Eve carol service.
Royal Fans Slam Prince William For Repeating Queen Elizabeth II’s 2012 Christmas Speech About ‘The Spirit Of Togetherness’-‘He Knifed His Own Brother In The Back’
On Christmas Eve, the Princess of Wales hosted a carol service in Westminster Abbey dedicated to Queen Elizabeth II, which was aired for the general public to view.
The late Queen gave the words as part of a larger speech in 2012 from the White Drawing Room at Buckingham Palace. It’s uncertain why William selected this particular section.
With that being said, this is what William had to say: “At Christmas I’m always struck by how the spirit of togetherness lies also at the heart of the Christmas story.
“A young mother and a dutiful father with their baby were joined by poor shepherds and visitors from afar.” Aside from the speech, the festivities will be significant in more ways than one.
First of all, it will be the first Christmas that is going ahead without the former monarch since her passing in September of this year.
Secondly, despite hopes that Prince Harry and Meghan Markle would attend, the Sussexes decided to not spend Christmas at Sandringham.
But in any event, William’s words were seen as an attempt to continue Queen Elizabeth II’s legacy moving forward. And yet, not everyone was convinced by his words.
This was on the basis that William had no right to talk about togetherness in light of his poor relations with the Sussexes. And this was reflected in the comments that followed on social media.
One person wrote: “William has a cheek to talk about togetherness after he knifed his own brother in the back. He has been exposed and we have seen his true colours.
“He was shouting and screaming and sending hurtful and upsetting text messages.” It is fair to say that William’s words did not go down well.
