2022 was a year of re-birth for the long standing professional wrestling promotion Ring of Honor. After an uncertain end to 2021, the company would be purchased by Tony Khan – the owner of All Elite Wrestling. This would lead to a lot of crossover between ROH & AEW over the course of the year, something which Tony Khan has promised would change following Final Battle 2022. This is because in 2023, we will be seeing a weekly ROH show, airing on HonorClub.
HonorClub To Future New Weekly ROH Show, PPV’s After 90 Days
Since Khan purchased Ring of Honor, the HonorClub streaming platform would go under some serious maintenance. It has now been relaunched, with it being touted as containing 2,500 hours of content. Covering content from ROH’s launch in 2002 all the way to 2021, HonorClub doesn’t have a full archive of all possible ROH content yet – with more hopefully coming in time.
However, the main draw to HonorClub will be the upcoming weekly ROH show announced by Tony Khan during the Final Battle media scrum. With the likes of Claudio Castagnoli, Wheeler Yuta, The Briscoes, and Athena as top champions in the promotion – they are likely to be used as the big names on the show, which was also promised to have significant crossover with New Japan Pro Wrestling.
Value Will Be Decided By The Quality Of New Programming
In addition to weekly new content, all ROH PPV’s will appear on the platform 90 days after airing on platforms like Bleacher Report & FiteTV. It’s current price is set to be $9.99, which isn’t the worst value in the industry – but does pale in comparison to services like WWE Network, NJPW World or even Fite+. The quality of the weekly ROH show will truly decide if this service is worth it to most fans, and we could see a price cut if subscription numbers don’t meet expectations.
At the very least, this gives an outlet for Ring of Honor content beyond the already clogged three hours of weekly AEW programming. They have their own space where it can have 100% focus. It’s likely we will see a batch of tapings done, with an announcement hopefully coming in January.
