Earlier this year, we’d see the future of Ring of Honor secured when Tony Khan would buy the company from the Sinclair Media group. He’d combine ROH with with this own company in All Elite Wrestling, while making PPV events for ROH like Supercard of Honor and Death Before Dishonor into massive successes. However, he’s been unable to find a home for ROH to have weekly television, but hopes to get that figured out in 2023.
Tony Khan Details Goals With Ring of Honor
During an interview with Sports Illustrated – Tony Khan would speak on the future of ROH. He’d be quoted saying the following about the brand, promising more PPV events and how a goal is weekly TV.
“We’ll have great news soon about Ring of Honor weekly shows. he success of Death Before Dishonor on pay-per-view has ensured there will be more Ring of Honor pay-per-views. Our goal is to have one more great pay-per-view for Ring of Honor in 2022 and then follow that up with a weekly show in 2023.”
We know Final Battle 2022 is set for December 10th, which is the same date as the next WWE NXT special – NXT Deadline. Final Battle is set for 3PM EST however, with Khan wanting to avoid overlap with football games, which might also ensure no overlap with WWE NXT.
A Strong Lineup Of Current Champions
Right now, AEW is running a major angle with the ROH World Championship. It was won by Chris Jericho back at AEW Grand Slam, with him defeating Claudio Castagnoli. Since then, he’s been looking to drop all possible former ROH World Champions, having so far taken down Bandido, Bryan Danielson, and most recently – Dalton Castle.
This will likely ensure he faces a former champion in the main event of Final Battle, with a lot of hope that this will mean Chris Jericho vs. Samoa Joe. Joe is the current ROH World Television Champion, while the Pure Championship is held by Daniel Garcia, Tag Team Championships by FTR, and Women’s World Championship by Mercedes Martinez.
