During the Iron Survivor Challenge, Carmelo Hayes entered as a favourite to win it all – but wasn’t able to claim the victory. Following the match, Axiom would be hyped on social media for his dive off the penalty box – with an image showing Hayes shocked in the background. Not keen on being clowned on, Hayes has challenged Axiom for a match here tonight on NXT. It’s a matter of respect, and Hayes has the advantage with Trick Williams joining him at ringside.
Carmelo Hayes & Axiom Put On A Wrestling Clinic
Hayes would toss Axiom to the mat as the bell rang, only to have his ankle picked as he wasted him talking trash. Axiom would get a one count off a quick pinfall attempt, before sending Hayes flying with a springboard armdrag. Hayes would avoid a jumping enziguri, before being taken to the mat with a springboard headlock takeover.
Axiom would find himself in a headscissor, but was able to easily wrestle his way to freedom before kicking out at two from a jacknife cover. Hayes would be taken to the mat with a running armbreaker, before Axiom would apply the Hammerlock, and look to move into the Crossface Chickenwing. Axiom would be driven into the corner, but came out fast with a single leg dropkick.
Northern Lights Suplex would get Axiom a two count, before going back into a rear waist lock. Hayes would break free with a stiff elbow smash, before talking some more trash and being shot from the sky while going for the springboard lariat. Axiom would drop Hayes with a leg kick from the mat, before being stomped in the middle of the ring.
Hayes would get an armlock applied, with Williams offering advice from ringside as Axiom found his feet and got a two count off a Crucifix pinfall. Axiom & Hayes would throw strikes in the middle of the ring, with Hayes sent off the rope before Axiom nailed a picture perfect dropkick. A Fisherman Suplex would get a two count, Axiom not quite Perfect with that move yet.
Trick Williams Makes All The Difference
Hayes would come back with a pump kick before the La Mistica for a two count, before applying the crossface. Axiom would fight free before the flying crossbody would be used to set up a cross armbreaker. Hayes would shift this into a triangle choke, and was able to grab the mask to set up the powerbomb counter.
Axiom would reapply the hold before having his head slammed into the mat. Hayes would go back to the arm, before kicking Axiom in the jaw. Axiom would take this as a challenge, hitting some overhand chops before heading to the middle rope. Hayes would follow him, before being taken down with a super hurricanrana.
He’d avoid the kick from Axiom with help from Williams, and hit Nothing But Net for the victory. After the match, Axiom would take down Williams with a moonsault – making it clear this issue is not finished.
Former Tag Team Partners Meet In Grudge Match
At one point, it seemed as if Zoey Stark & Nikkita Lyons would be the next big women’s tag team in WWE – but Stark had different plans. She was sick of carrying Lyons to big chances, and would blast her in the face with the NXT Women’s Tag Team Championship after failing to win the belts. Since then, Stark has been rising through the ranks – but fell short in the Iron Survivor Challenge. Tonight, she finally goes one on one with Lyons – looking to put this issue in the past.
Lyons would attack Stark on her way to the ring, kicking this match off with a bang. A hook kick in the ring would have Stark reeling, and a jumping elbow smash in the corner would follow. Stark would flee to the floor, leading Lyons out before driving her face first into the ring post.
Lyons would be slammed face first off the apron, before being choked on the middle rope in the ring. A stiff chop would follow, with Stark applying a rear chinlock moments later. Lyons would fight to her feet, before being driven back down to the mat. Stark would be thrown with a German Suplex, before Lyons hit a series of kicks for a near fall.
Lyons would be dropped with a dropkick, before setting up a Samoan Drop in the middle of the ring for a two count. Stark would get a roll up near the ropes, using them for extra leverage on her way to the victory.
