Even though the bad parts from AEW Dark Elevation were minor grievances from me, AEW Dark also had some notable issues this week. Here are some of my opinions of what went wrong on this week’s episode.
The Bad from AEW Dark
The women’s tag team match with Ruby Soho and Willow Nightingale versus Diamante and Emi Sakura suffered something that was completely part of my own personal preference.
I like Ruby and Diamante but I couldn’t care less about Willow and Emi. I will give them credit for being over with the AEW crowd, but for me, I just don’t like their in-ring mannerisms.
Also, something that I noticed about a lot of wrestlers in AEW, is that there are a lot of finishing moves in the company that sounds like it should be cool in concept but when it is actually done, it is just not it.
The Tay Melo and Anna Jay A.S. squash match wasn’t bad and they did what they needed to do. My issue is that the match went on too long if they weren’t going to let Roddy Piper’s daughter do anything more than a few clotheslines during the match.
Of course, her team wasn’t going to win and I am not sure how long she has been wrestling, but she is someone that the crowd loved and was behind. This is something that I’ve noticed in AEW.
There are many matches on the Dark and Elevation shows that are AEW talent against basically enhancement talent but AEW feels like they have to give the debuting or enhancement wrestler close to equal offense.
Lastly, even though it isn’t something bad that came from the show, I would like to say that I think that AEW recaping their past week on the Dark and Elevation shows would be a good thing for them.
It doesn’t have to be very long at all. Maybe four or five minutes to give people who probably don’t watch the show an idea of what they are missing week to week.
I know that AEW wants to cater to their core fanbase but I think that they have to be looking at more growth sometime in the future and this starts with doing a better job with what you can control, to get the word about the product out there.
