The first episode of AEW Dark Elevation had promise to be just as good as the last edition of last year, but I think that they came up short of that show. Let’s take a look at the good parts of this week’s show.
The Good from AEW Dark Elevation
The opening match involving Hikaru Shida was a slightly longer squash match. There was a lot of energy in the match which I like. There were times that the offense looked a little light, but it is something that I can look pass.
I loved the Varsity Athletes’ manager talking his guys up on the way to the ring. The crowd hated it which made me love it even more.
I liked the match also. There was a little too much playing to the crowd early in the match but it really picked up later on. The pace of the match was good and really like when a crowd responds to faces and heels like they supposed to.
I think that the Varsity Athletes should be thrown into the mix with the tag teams on Wednesday and Friday, while the Pillars of Destiny should get more work on Dark and Dark Elevation.
The promo with Hardy and Isiah Kassidy was headed in the wrong direction before Ethan Page joined in. I am enjoying this storyline and I wish that there was more of a focus on it during the shows.
Julia Hart squashed Leva Bates. It did what it needed to do, and I appreciate AEW using actual talent to get Julia over instead of a random woman.
The Jarrett and Lethal squash match was decent also. It didn’t overstay its welcome and there were a few fun spots in it also.
The house of Black’s entrance is awesome. I loved this match and I think that the crowd loved seeing the House of Black. It is insane that they aren’t featured more on AEW television shows.
Something that I love about House of Black is that they all seem like they belong in the faction and that they aren’t just random wrestlers thrown into a group together. Also, every member of the group brings something different to the group which is great.
