Ever since Action Andretti came onto the scene in All Elite Wrestling, it’s been a hard time for Chris Jericho. Andretti had the upset of the century when he defeated Jericho in his debut, and would go on to defeat Daniel Garcia last Friday on AEW Rampage. Jericho also called out Ricky Starks, and that ended with him starting 2023 with another profile loss. Tonight, Andretti & Starks would unite against Jericho & Guevara in tag team action.
Chris Jericho Lost Back To Back Matches And Needs This Win
It would be noted that the losses to Andretti & Starks was the first time in his AEW career that Jericho has lost back to back matches. Andretti would kick things off with Gueavra, landing on his feet out of a backdrop. Guevara would leap over Andretti before sweeping the legs and getting a one count.
Andretti would trip Guevara to try for a standing moonsault, with this avoided before a high speed stalemate. Guevara would be sent to the floor, and kept there as Andretti hit a Jericho style triangle dropkick. Andretti hit the ropes looking for a dive, with Gueavra moving quick to hit a corkscrew dropkick.
Guevara would follow up with a twisting plancha over the top rope, before looking for the top rope frankensteiner, with Andretti landing on his feet. Andretti would hit the Spanish Fly in the middle of the ring, and both men tagged their respective partners. Starks would trade chops with Jericho, before blocking a diving Codebreaker out of the corner.
Daniel Garcia Senses The Loss Coming
Jericho would be catapulted into the corner, before Starks would go Old School on the top rope – with Guevara cutting him down with a Springboard Cutter. Starks would be isolated in the corner of Le Sex Gods, with quick tags being made as they would slam Guevara into the ring. He’d be able to break free, with Andretti hitting some Backbreaker/Neckbreaker combos before Starks followed up with the Swinging DDT.
Jericho would hit the ring and was cut down with a spear. Guevara broke the pinfall up, and Starks blocked a Codebreaker into a Sit Out Liger Bomb. Andretti would hit the Disaster Kick before missing the Split Legged Moonsault. Gueavra would hit a rising knee, but was unable to hit the GTH. Jericho got Andretti with a thumb to the eye, but he’d trust his instincts and hit a Poisonrana and neckbreaker on Gueavra.
Starks took Jericho out on the floor with Roshambo, and sensing the loss – Daniel Garcia would use the bat of Jericho to knock Andretti silly. GTH would follow – and this was a much needed win for the Jericho Appreciation Society.
Following this match, we’d get a video package celebrating the life of Jay Briscoe – finally able to be honored on AEW TV. Tonight’s main event would be confirmed to be Mark Briscoe vs. Jay Lethal.
Buddy Matthews Looks To Bring Gold To House Of Black
Darby Allin has been a fighting champion since winning the TNT Championship from Samoa Joe, and is ready to use his position to settle an old grudge. House of Black would return at the end of 2022, placing the entire roster on notice – despite being run out of the building at All Out by Darby Allin, Sting & Miro. Tonight, Allin has called out Buddy Matthews with the TNT Championship on the line.
Matthews would start hard with a knee to the face, with Julia Hart creating the opening by jumping onto the apron. Allin would be thrown into the barricade, before being pulled into the ring and tossed hard into the turnbuckles. Matthews looked for a PK off the apron, before just settling for a backdrop on the apron before looking for a powerbomb into the barricade.
Allin was able to block with a hurricanrana, before hitting looking for the dive. Matthews would use the ring skirt to trip Allin up, before hitting a Meteora on the apron. Allin would be able to fire back with a stunner, sending Matthews to the floor for the Coffin Drop.
Darby Allin Refuses To Give The TNT Championship Up
The lights went out, and when they came back on – Brody King & Malakai Black were here. Ortiz would come from the back to fight them off alongside Sting. Back in the ring, Matthews would nail the Liger Bomb – getting a near fall. Allin would apply a sleeper hold, with Matthews breaking it by driving him into the corner.
Matthews would get lost looking to apply The Last Supper pinfall, and instead would lock in the Texas Cloverleaf – with Allin able to break free. Allin would get Matthews on the top rope, and would dig his nails into the back of Matthews before biting him. Matthews would carry Allin to the middle of the ring in the Electric Chair – only to be dropped with the Poisonrana.
Allin would batter the head of Matthews into the barricade, before a Crucifix Bomb in the ring for a near fall. They’d struggle to their feet, with Matthews throwing strikes at Allin before blocking the Code Red and hitting a Buckle Bomb into the Curb Stomp – an ode to his old Messiah. Allin would land the Code Red, setting up the Coffin Drop.
Matthews would be able to block this, looking for a superplex. Allin would struggle free and hit an Avalanche Scorpion Deathdrop. Coffin Drop would follow, and this one was over. After the match, Tony Schiavone would ask who Allin will face next. Samoa Joe would announce he wants his rematch.
