Marjorie Wallace, known for her charity work on mental health, declared that she doesn’t approve of ‘victimhood’ when she was questioned about Meghan Markle’s comment over having suicidal thoughts.
Head Of Mental Health Charity Slams Meghan Markle’s Victimhood-‘Don’t Really Think Playing The Victim Card Helps’
Wallace, who formed the mental health charity SANE in 1986, said that she has no ‘admiration’ for those who are looking to use victimhood for their own ends.
This comes amid Meghan’s controversial comments in her Oprah Winfrey interview in which she stated that she was driven to having suicidal thoughts.
The Duchess of Sussex stated that she felt she could not be left alone and informed her husband that she did not want to keep living. She then exclaimed that the HR division of Buckingham Palace disregarded her request for assistance.
And after having apparently informed her spouse, Prince Harry, she had to go to the Royal Albert Hall for a charitable event, saying that the pictures from that night still haunted her.
In her comments at the time, Meghan remarked: “I knew that if I didn’t say it, that I would do it. I just didn’t want to be alive anymore. And that was a very clear and real and frightening constant thought.”
When asked about Meghan’s comments, this is what Wallace had to say: “I don’t really think playing the victim card helps, whatever you’re a victim of, and I don’t really respect people who take victimhood on as a career.
“That’s not my stoic philosophy.” The fans on social media resonated with what Wallace had to say. A certain subset of people were of the view that Meghan’s vocal nature was not helping her deal with the issues at hand and move forward.
One person wrote: “Well said. Victimhood and constant offence at anything and everything is destructive and must surely make mental health conditions worse.”
