Impact Wrestling is affectionately called the cockroach of professional wrestling because it refuses to die, and others have been calling for AEW or WWE to buy them for years because they’re not bog and flashy.
But what Impact Wrestling is can’t be measured by the analytics those accustomed to numbers relay on. Like in any sport, there’s more to it than just stats and anyone that doesn’t look beyond the surface generally misses a great story.
One such story in Impact Wrestling is Josh Alexander, who has officially surpassed Bobby Roode’s record for the longest world title reign of 256 days at 257 on January 2, 2022.
Josh Alexander Passes Bobby Roode for Longest TNA/Impact Wrestling World Championship Reign
The list has some impressive names like AJ Styles at number 3 at 211 days, Johnny Impact at number 4 with 196 days, and Sting at number 5 with 189 days.
Legends have carried the Impact Wrestling Championship over the years and Alexander has shown his skill is up there with any of them during his reign.

Historic run
Alexander has detailed his rise from an overweight teenager to a professional wrestler, and then into the superstar he has become over the last couple of years.
He’s overcome severe injuries and every naysayer that claimed he couldn’t succeed and live out his dream.
As Mike Johnson of PWInsider.com said: “What Josh Alexander has accomplished since winning the IMPACT World Championship is nothing short of extraordinary. It has been the rare championship reign that not only lives up to the 20-year legacy of IMPACT’s World Championship, but, in many ways, surpasses it. Alexander has evolved into the backbone of the promotion with incredible bouts against Moose, Frankie Kazarian, ‘Speedball’ Mike Bailey, Tomohiro Ishii, Eric Young and many, many others. The work ethic Josh has brought to the ring will be what inspires the next generation and will be meticulously studied in the decades to come. It’s an era that will define IMPACT long after it concludes.”
Alexander’s attention to detail is second to none when it comes to his matches, and he’s been sure to throw in homages to some of the greats from time to time by using their finishers or other moves.
A company’s world champion is the one person that is meant to lead the company, to be the flag bearer, so to speak, as they travel the country and world, and to epitomize what a champion is supposed to be.
While he’s earned all the accolades and praise being heaped on him, Alexander will face his most dangerous challenger when he defends the Impact Wrestling Championship against Bully Ray at Hard To Kill on January 13 — Friday the 13th.
It’s been announced the even is sold out, and that speaks volumes to Alexander and the rest of the company for putting out a product that has wrestling fans excited.
