Queen Consort Camilla requested that King Charles III give a New Year’s honour to Virginia Carington, who was her former housemate, even though the old friend had previously labeled Camilla as a “total slob”.
King Charles III Recognised Queen Consort Camilla’s Flatmate In The New Year’s Honours List Despite Her Calling Camilla A ‘Total Slob’
In 1965, Camilla and Virginia leased a flat on London’s high-end Edbury Street, after Virginia had completed her etiquette studies at the Mon Fertile finishing school located near Geneva.
In his first New Year’s Honours list, the King bestowed the CVO title to Virginia, the sister of Rupert who is currently the Lord Great Chamberlain. This is despite the fact that Virginia did not hold Camilla in that high regard.
Jessica Jayne, the author of the publication The Duchess Of Cornwall, wrote the following when recounting Virginia’s view of Camilla: “On coming home, she would just drop her clothes on the floor and leave them.
“Camilla’s bedroom always looked like a bomb had hit it.” Virginia was amongst many other people who were celebrated, which included the England women’s soccer squad for their triumph in the European Championships this year and Grayson Perry for his creative works.
In addition, just three years back, Camilla went to Westminster Abbey in the company of different officials after the passing of Virginia’s dad, Lord Carrington.
He sadly died after his 99th birthday in July 2018. But for all the respect Camilla had shown, it was Camilla’s messiness that worked Virginia up.
Writer Gyles Brandreth confirmed as much: “Virginia was fairly tidy and organised and Camilla drove her nuts, in the nicest possible way.
“Virginia once told me: “You know, Camilla has this inability to hang anything up on a hanger. And she has an aversion to cleaning fluids of any description. You should see the state of the bathroom when she’s been in it.”
It is fair to say that the pair did not have the fondest of memories. So there you have it folks. What did you think about this? Let us know your thoughts in the comments section below.
