We’re a few days removed from the first WWE PPV of 2023, and it’s hard to deny that Royal Rumble was not a successful show for WWE. It set a gate record for Royal Rumble by a wide margin, and was the most watched Rumble in the event’s 36 year history. Cody Rhodes & Rhea Ripley would both earn their WrestleMania title shots, but it was the closing angle between Sami Zayn & Roman Reigns that had fans talking… and will be the main event of Elimination Chamber, per reports.
Sami Zayn To Face Roman Reigns In Montreal At Elimination Chamber
With Elimination Chamber set to take place in Montreal, Quebec on February 21st, booking hometown hero Sami Zayn to challenge for the Undisputed WWE Universal Championship just makes sense. Formerly aligned with The Bloodline, he would turn on Roman Reigns following a brutal beatdown on his longtime best friend Kevin Owens. It was the chairshot heard around the world – getting 21 million views on social media in the 24 hours following the Royal Rumble.
While some feel like the angle of Zayn finally standing up to Reigns would have gotten an even better reaction in Montreal, him potentially getting his chance to win a World Championship in WWE in Montreal will be huge. We will truly see Reigns as the most hated man in professional wrestling, and should Zayn get the win – the building might well need a fresh roof. With Jey Uso also having split off from The Bloodline – the chance of Reigns being screwed in Montreal is looking very possible.
The Tribal Chief Is Paranoid And Frantic
With the reign of Roman Reigns now hitting 884 days – it’s due to end soon. Be that to Zayn in Montreal or Cody Rhodes at WrestleMania 39, it seems like this reign will be ending very soon. He will pass 900 days before his next title defence, an insane record for the modern era of WWE.
While it’s seemed like Reigns was close to losing in the past – his recent matches and promos have shown him being more paranoid than ever before. He’s just lost two members of The Bloodline with Zayn & Jey, leaving just Paul Heyman, Solo Sikoa & Jimmy Uso to back him up. The Tribal Chief is finally vulnerable – and if The Rock is set to be his Summerslam opponent, that is a match and feud that simply doesn’t need a championship.
