Loring was observed selling drugs in the Aroostook and Penobscot counties from January 2018 until 2021 when she was arrested. The arrest also resulted in the seizure of drugs, paraphernalia, and weapons. Her arrest came as part of a larger investigation and raid which ran for roughly four years.
Methamphetamine and fentanyl both pose a problem for law enforcement in Arookstook and Penobscot counties with authorities in both counties reporting several busts and seizures a month.
Overall, 17 people were nabbed in connection to drug trafficking in Maine and Massachusetts. In pleading guilty, Loring could face up to 20 years and a fine of up to $1 million. Sentencing will be determined by her role in drug trafficking and if she is likely to re-offend.
Shelby Loring is expected to be sentenced at a later time.
