That afternoon at around 12:40 PM, the Riverside PD arrived at the scene of a carjacking downtown. Legardy allegedly approached a woman who was in her car and pulled his pistol on her. Forcing his way into the vehicle, Legardy ordered the victim to drive.
The two circled the block with no stated destination in mind before the suspect bailed out of the car. Legardy would drive off in the car but 40 minutes later, he was reportedly knocking on doors around the 5900 block of Meadowbrook Lane.
Witnesses spotted him chatting with a senior citizen before the two left. Officers made it to the elderly man’s residence and entered. Inside, they found the carjack and the senior citizen who had been beaten savagely and stuffed in a closet underneath a pile of clothes.
From what authorities were told, the elderly man lived alone and neighbors would’ve known if he had roommates, company, or house guests. Ronald Legardy Jr is now behind bars and bail was denied.
The senior citizen was taken to the hospital with injuries to his head and upper body but was released. As for the first victim, she was unharmed her car was found outside the second victim’s house.
The Riverside PD discovered Legardy’s weapon at the second victim’s house and found it to be a pellet gun that resembled an actual pistol.
