As usual, there’s tons of speculation going across social media about whether or not Mercedes Mone is going to AEW as was unofficially announced.
Fans believe it and it’s been reported AEW talent thinks it’s likely after last night’s AEW Dynamite (January 4) where the stage was set and Dr Britt Baker even said “the boss” line.
While everything’s pointing toward Mercedes coming to AEW, on Wrestling Observer Radio Dave Meltzer and Brian Alvarez reported the opposite from their sources in AEW and WWE.

Not ready for a commitment from AEW?
As reported by Wrestlingnews.co, Meltzer pointed out that Mercedes isn’t in Los Angeles and she’s not going to AEW because he doesn’t believe she’ll want to make that commitment.
“She is not in Los Angeles. She is not coming to AEW. I don’t think she wants to make that commitment. Because if she goes to AEW it’s a long commitment.
“I’ve heard denials from AEW people in the match. They knew that it was really screwed. That’s why they had to announce somebody this week because they knew it was really screwed because everybody was thinking that it was her and it wasn’t her.”
Alvarez wondered about the “I’m the boss” line as that would get fans thinking Mercedes Mone will be on the next Dynamite and she may not wrestle, depending on her contract with NJPW.
Meltzer explained that he knows the WWE have the impression she will not wrestle for AEW and that she’s coming back at some point once she gets wandering around out of her system.
“I also know from WWE that they are very strongly under the impression that she will not wrestle for AEW…They think that she’s coming back at some point and she’ll get this out of her system [and] she’ll do her New Japan matches. She’s only contracted for a couple of matches…If she’s going to AEW, she’s got to sign for 3 years minimum because why bother if she’s going back [to WWE]. For AEW it would be really stupid to put her on TV if she’s gonna go back in 6 months. I don’t know that she wants to make that commitment that she can’t go back…”
While we understand she may not want to get tied up in a contract like she was in WWE, there’s no reason she can’t work out a deal for appearances and matches as AEW and other companies often do.
It’ll allow her to remain free and her own boss and not be tied to any one company.
